Overall purpose of role The Trader Assistant role is a Middle Office function, primarily designed to create a liaison between the traders and the middle or back office as well as the Firm's internal finance, administration, and operations groups in New York, London, and other principal locations. The Trader Assistant is one of several key contacts for operations for any trade issues and performs trade affirmations, trade reconciliation and resolves trade and reporting exceptions.

The Trader Assistant is one of several key contacts for operations for any trade issues and performs trade affirmations, trade reconciliation and resolves trade and reporting exceptions.

Key Accountabilities

  • Support Municipal traders covering variety of cash and structured products
  • Assist in setup and settlement of Tender Option Bond structures
  • Serve as a liaison between the desk and other areas within operations and the bank
  • Validate trades back to independent sources for more structured products
  • Validate broker and direct trades to ensure risk and PnL tie out on T0
  • Resolve downstream flow issues
  • Work with Trade Capture Utility to coordinate corrections to trades
  • Work with Static Data Teams to assure timely and correct securities setup
  • Ensure regulatory reporting is correct and all rejected trades are actioned within acceptable time frame
  • Initiate any necessary improvements to processes and ensure new tasks and products are escalated to management for review and approval
  • Assist IT in developing new enhancements
  • Participate in user acceptance testing on technology enhancement to firm proprietary and vendor distributed applications (order management systems, trade capture and enrichment)
  • Resolve breaks on various reconciliation reports
  • Manage ad hock queries from various external and internal clients
  • Resolve any failed transactions with brokers and internal counterparties
  • Work with Trade Support and various operation groups to ensure proper settlement and resolution of trade issues.

Stakeholder Management and Leadership

Trader Assistant is a key contact for external and internal clients such as brokers, issuers, trading and sales desks, and other teams within operations. Candidate should have strong verbal and written communication skills in order to be able to carry out tasks effectively.

Decision-making and Problem Solving

Suitable candidate should be able to independently research issues, analyze problems and draw conclusions leading to appropriate corrective actions.

Risk and Control Objective

Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards.
