Global Risk is a thriving and expert risk management function supporting HSBC globally with all aspects of risk management. The team actively manages a varied and dynamic range of risk types, including security, fraud, information security, contingency, geopolitical, operational, credit, pension, insurance, financial crime and regulatory compliance, market and reputation risks. All parts of the Global Risk team use their skills, insight and integrity to handle established threats and those they see emerging, acting to protect and enable HSBC to deliver sustainable growth.

We are currently seeking a high caliber professional to join our team as Business Risk and Control Management Manager and Regional Business Information Risk Officer, Asia Pacific Risk.

In this role, you will

  • Play a key role in managing Operational Risk across the Region for Global Risks First Line of Defence
  • Provide guidance to Risk Owners and Control Owners regarding Operational Risk Management Function, operational risk policies and operational risk policy dispensations
  • Ensure that Application Service Provider Risk has a robust and compliant business risk and control capability, compliant with the HSBCs Operational Risk Management Framework
  • Coordinate the Root Cause Analysis process on behalf of Risk Owners and Control Owners, for example trigger event monitoring, stakeholder engagement, meeting organisation and outputs. Engage Risk Stewards as required.
  • Provide expert advice to Risk Owners and Control Owners in the completion of Risk Cause Analysis, including identifying material operational risks and controls
  • Ensure remedial actions are identified, assigned and managed as part of the Risk Cause Analysis process. Track and provide advice on the completion of management response actions, ensure timely and accurate recording in the operational risk management system, HSBC Helios. 
  • Provide feedback on the embedding and use of the Operational Risk Management Function and operational risk policies to the Operational Risk function and Risk Stewards
  • Ensure adherence to Group Standards, Regulatory and Group Audit requirements
  • Develop and execute control monitoring plans as requested by Control Owners.
  • Work with Risk Owner to identify and oversee completion of remediation actions

To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements

  • Previous experience in Risk Management within a global organisation
  • Ability to present complex issues confidently and concisely to key stakeholders or senior management using simple language and accommodating globally distributed stakeholders. 
  • Strong knowledge of the external environment such as risk, regulatory, political, competitors et cetera. 
  • Sound relationship management, collaboration and influencing skills with experience of positive, challenging interactions with senior executives across multiple functions. 
  • Risk and Control subject matter expertise. 
  • Ability to identify, assess and communicate the need for risk management intervention in complex, fast paced environments. 
  • High level of drive and self motivation to ensure delivery of a broad range of outputs simultaneously in a matrix environment. 
  • Competent decision maker, making considered and timely decisions, particularly when under high pressure.  
  • Ability to use initiative to resolve issues, whilst dealing with a diverse range of stakeholders and team members, distributed across functions and locations. 
  • Experience of building and maintaining strong working relationships across a globally distributed matrix organisation.
