Department Profile

Global Financial Crimes (GFC) coordinates day-to-day implementation of the Firm’s enterprise-wide financial crime prevention efforts. GFC includes several legal and compliance disciplines and has responsibility for governance, oversight and execution of the Firm’s AML, Sanctions, Anti-Corruption and Government and Political Activities Compliance programs. GFC also develops and/or assists in the development of appropriate policies and procedures, including those designed to assist the business units to know their clients and conduct appropriate due diligence and to prevent, detect and report potentially suspicious activity. GFC has dedicated coverage managers and teams of analysts who advise and counsel each business unit regarding its AML, sanctions and anti-corruption obligations and its particular clients and transactions.

Background on the Team

The Core Functions team is responsible for a number of aspects of the Financial Crimes framework across Asia-Pacific and works alongside other GFC teams, which are aligned according to business units or countries.

The Core Functions team’s breadth of responsibilities includes: project managing enhancement projects, oversight of the Firm’s financial intelligence unit and investigations work streams, maintaining the Firm’s policies, procedures, training, testing and quality assurance, MI/Reporting and Governance. The Regional Head of Core Functions also provides COO support to the Regional Head of Financial Crimes which includes, developing and tracking the annual compliance plan, resourcing, vendor management, and budgeting.

Reporting Lines

The Regional Head of Core Functions (Regional Head) reports to the Head of Asia Pacific GFC.

Primary Responsibilities

The Regional Head will manage, lead and oversee the following areas:

  • Financial Intelligence Unit Analyst’s investigations of potential suspicious financial activity, analysis of trends and patterns in alerts, and conducting of cross-sector reviews among multiple business lines
  • Alert Clearing team’s work on alerts clearing, escalation and post-escalation support, as well as alert clearing enhancements
  • Manage Testing and Quality Assurance team’s execution of annual testing plan and sample checks of work performed under the GFC Program
  • Policies, Procedures and Training Coordinator’s work on GFC policies and procedures, as well as the global and regional training requirements and related materials
  • Regional Administrative Coordinator’s maintenance of governance framework and work on Internal Audit and Regulatory exams
  • Recommend enhancements to key components of GFC compliance and controls systems, as required
  • Identify and lead enhancements to the GFC Program
  • Lead special projects and targeted reviews for Business Units and GFC coverage areas
  • Manage interactions with Internal Audit during exams
  • Coordinate regional and global inputs into management committees and parent companies
  • Coordinate regional and global inputs into regulatory exams
  • Lead the creation and tracking of the annual GFC Compliance Plan
  • COO activities relating to resourcing, vendor management and budgeting *LI-GK2


Skills required (essential)

Candidates must:

Required Experience
  • Have a 4 year college degree with strong academic credentials
  • Have 6-10 years of professional experience within the financial services industry in a GFC or Compliance or internal audit capacity; or experience within a financial services regulatory agency

  • Have some knowledge of regional anti-money laundering & sanctions regulations
  • Possess an understanding of financial markets and banking
  • Maintain awareness of current laws, rules and regulations

  • Possess demonstrable team management skills
  • Have excellent written and verbal communications skills, attention to detail and strong time management skills
  • Possess strong analytical thinking and critical reasoning skills
  • Have the ability to interact in a mature and professional manner with a variety of individuals within the GFC team (both in the region and globally) and across the organization
  • Have the ability to effectively handle a fast paced environment and successfully meet established deadline requirements
  • Be certified as an Anti-Money Laundering Specialist by ACAMS or equivalent AML certification/license – or certification within 15 months of hire
