Global Risk is a thriving and expert risk management function supporting HSBC globally with all aspects of risk management. The team actively manages a varied and dynamic range of risk types, including security, fraud, information security, contingency, geopolitical, operational, credit, pension, insurance, financial crime and regulatory compliance, market and reputation risks. All parts of the Global Risk team use their skills, insight and integrity to handle established threats and those they see emerging, acting to protect and enable HSBC to deliver sustainable growth.

We are currently seeking a high caliber professional to join our team as Senior Business Risk Control Management Manager Asia Pacific Risk.

In this role, you will

  • Play a key role in managing Operational Risk across the Region for Global Risk First Line of Defence.   
  • Provide guidance to Risk Owners and Control Owners regarding Operational Risk Management Framework, operational risk policies and operational risk policy dispensations.
  • Ensure that Asia Pacific Risk has a robust and compliant business risk and control capability compliant with the HSBC Operational Risk Management Framework.
  • Coordinate the Risk Control Audit process on behalf of Risk Owners and Control Owners, for example trigger event monitoring, stakeholder engagement, meeting organisation and outputs, and Engage Risk Stewards as required.
  • Provide expert advice to Risk Owners and Control Owners in the completion of Risk Control Audits, including identifying material operational risks and controls.
  • Provide guidance to Asia Pacific Risk function and sub function management as regards adherence to both internal and external directives from the Second Line of Defence including but not limited to Compliance, Operational Risk, Information Security Risk, Business Continuity functions.
  • In support of the Regional Chief Control Officer ensure adequate Business Risk Control Management resources with appropriate capabilities are in place to provide required support.
  • Develop and execute control monitoring plans as requested by Control Owners and work with Risk Owner to identify and oversee completion of remediation actions.
  • Use Key Indicators set by Risk Owners and Control Owners to facilitate control monitoring.

To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements

  • Previous experience in Risk Management within a global organisation. 
  • Ability to present complex issues confidently and concisely to key stakeholders and senior management using simple language and accommodating globally distributed stakeholders. 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the external environment including risk, regulatory, political, competitors and etcera. 
  • Strong relationship management, collaboration and influencing skills with experience of positive, challenging interactions with senior executives across multiple functions. 
  • Risk and Control subject matter expertise. 
  • Ability to identify, assess and communicate the need for risk management intervention in complex, fast paced environments. 
  • Skilled decision maker, making considered and timely decisions, particularly when under high pressure
  • Ability to build senior relationships by communicating, influencing and negotiating effectively with senior executives, non executives, regulators, third parties and internal management teams. 
  • Ability to use initiative to resolve issues, whilst dealing with a diverse range of stakeholders and team members, distributed across functions and locations. 
  • Experience of building and maintaining strong working relationships across a globally distributed matrix organisation.
