Global Risk
Global Risk is a thriving and expert risk management function supporting HSBC globally with all aspects of risk management. The team actively manages a varied and dynamic range of risk types, including security, fraud, information security, operational, credit, pension, insurance, compliance, regulatory, market, reputation and geopolitical risks. All parts of the Global Risk team use their skills, insight and integrity to handle established threats and those they see emerging, acting to protect and enable HSBC to deliver sustainable growth.

We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join this team in the role of Assistant Manager Wholesale Credit Risk.

Role Context and Major Challenges:
The role holder is responsible to execute credit decisions within his individual credit approval authority, monitors and manages the wholesale credit portfolio on an on-going basis. He works closely with Global Banking (GB), Commercial Banking (CMB) Corporate and CMB Business Banking business teams to provide support in structuring and sizing credit appetite and lending proposals for facilities provided to wholesale clients of the bank, aligned with lending policies and standards, risk appetite and mandate frameworks, and regulatory guidelines, and ongoing stays abreast of trends in the book with respect to particular clients, industry sectors or products.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Responsiveness to tight deadlines is often required, as is diverse knowledge across a range of industrial, consumer, business services, transport, telecommunications, infrastructure, technology, natural resources and other cyclical or specialized sectors;
  • Role is important is supporting businesses is meeting their revenue goals sustainably and prudently, and is responsible for minimizing losses and accurately grading and rating the book and in maintaining and acquiring profitable and prudent credit exposures;
  • Knowledge of general secured and unsecured lending products of CMB and GB, trade financing, and related documentation of these facilities is important;
  • Awareness and compliance with all applicable policy, local and global credit authorities, audit and regulatory requirements, and early identification and escalation of emerging risks;
  • Role holder ideally must also have broad awareness of a range of non-credit risks such as fraud, reputational, operational and regulatory risk;
  • Role holder participates in development and implementation of credit policies and procedures and of wholesale models for assigned areas, ensuring credit process integrity and prudent management of overall credit quality.

  • Minimum of 1.5 years proven, progressive and broad-based experience in credit, lending and/or workout areas or equivalent;
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in business, finance, related field or equivalent experience.
  • Credit training or equivalent experience;
  • Strong analytical, planning, mathematical, problem-solving, communications, financial, technical, interpersonal and diplomatic skills;
  • In-depth knowledge of businesses, their credit products and pertinent regulations affecting the extension of credit for them;
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, evaluate and discuss credit risk in new, unusual or complex proposal structures.
