We have an exciting and rare opportunity for a Trainee Technical Support Engineer to join our multi skilled team which produces our award winning news programmes at ITV Tyne Tees and Border. The successful candidate will be required to support both the news and non news operations, working closely with the Technical Support Engineer based in Gateshead. Our coverage extends across the North East of England, Cumbria and Southern Scotland. There are additional bureaux in Carlisle, Edinburgh, Selkirk and Billingham, and the trainee will be required to support these operations, occasionally visiting the sites.
This is a trainee engineer role, focussed on developing an individual to expand and apply the specialist technical skills necessary to support a modern and vibrant TV news and online operation. As well as 'on the job' training there will be a formal mentoring and training syllabus, tailored to both the business needs as well as the individual's skills.
The technology operating in TV news is diverse, extending from live-to-air studio operations with specialist production equipment, processes and deadlines, through to location technology. As our Trainee Technical Support Engineer, you will have a passion for technology and engineering in a live news production environment. You will have the logical, methodical and analytical skills needed to diagnose and address technical issues at an equipment and systemic level. You will be able to demonstrate enthusiasm and an interest in electronics technology, for example: IP practices, computers, servers, software and communications technology. You will be required to become literate with this range of technologies and how they integrate into and support the news operation.
You will be a highly motivated and positive individual who is friendly and approachable. You will be committed to working as part of a successful team, sharing the responsibility for supporting programme production by having a strong willingness and aptitude to learn many new skills with appropriate training. Above all, you will be an excellent communicator who is quick thinking and calm under pressure, with the drive to make the exceptional happen.
Your rostered hours will include some evening and weekend working due to the nature of news production. There may be occasions when you are required to work long and unsociable hours at short notice.

We are flexible with the start date for this role - (Summer/Autumn and Winter start dates will be considered)
A good level of physical fitness is required due to the weight of the equipment needed in this role. The successful candidate will be asked to undergo a pre-employment medical check to ensure their fitness to perform the job and to identify any pre-existing medical conditions that may be exacerbated by carrying a reasonably heavy camera and kit.
