Main responsibilities

Act as a partner to Engineering function and their team with the management of all finance, commercial and business issues. Understand and challenge existing business and working practices and strive for continuous improvement at all levels within the delivery unit. Lead the Engineering function in efficiency finding and delivering cost savings.

Principal accountabilities

  • Provide overall financial and commercial support to Engineering function with respect to all relevant activities to maintain financial integrity and support the function review process including balance sheet reconciliations, accruals & prepayments.
  • Manage reporting of Engineer function including fleet, materials supporting the company’s consolidation to respective stakeholders.
  • Lead the budget and forecast preparation by acting as a link between budget holders and finance controller/finance services team in relation to the integrity of all financial data captured at source, management information produced and reported.
  • Use reporting and budgeting information to assist in improving management information and effectively manage risks and exploit opportunities.
  • Support engineer function mostly Engineer director and his team on financial and commercial requirement or business cases.
  • Lead the engineer function in terms of efficiency finding and business planning. Challenge the delivery of budget and scope requirements to ensure best value for money is achieved in PL working alongside the Project management finance partner.
  • Support the business evaluations of fleet initiatives alongside programme management teams. Challenge the delivery of the programme and scope requirements to ensure efficiencies are achieved on £ and on time.
  • Finance lead for the company energy management, monitoring costs and driving process improvement.
  • Contribution to business improvement activities and support the business in managing change where necessary including rollout of new systems, processes and contract & procurement strategies.
  • Actively contribute towards business case analysis and the management / improvement of non-financial / commercial issues on an ad-hoc basis.

Profile / Qualifications

  • CIMA / ACCA Qualified
  • High level of understanding of financial and / or commercial systems and policies within the company
  • High level numeric skills ability
  • Strong leadership ability
  • Able to effectively communicate at all levels inside and outside of the business
  • Self-motivated and able to work on own initiative
  • Effective and proven negotiation skills with ability to influence decision making
  • Can demonstrate innovative thinking in taking actions to improve performance and problem solving
