We're recruiting a Financial Controller on behalf of a leading private equity firm. The appointee will oversee the day to day running of the Group Finance team in a senior role as part of a large finance department.

The appointee will oversee the day to day running of the Group Finance, contribute to the strategy and direction of the team and review the output of the team. You may also take on various cross-departmental projects and deputise for the team when appropriate. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Liaising at a senior level with other departments regarding Group Finance matters;
  • Interpreting numbers commercially and effectively to communicate these to other relevant stakeholders (such as budget holders in other departments, COO etc);
  • Managing Group Finance’s external relationships such as company auditors;
  • Providing effective and commercially focused management reporting packs together with insightful commentary;
  • Providing constructive challenge to departments during the annual budget process;
  • Driving the strengthening of controls and ensure we have timely and appropriate processes to support the accuracy of all financial data;
  • Identifying inefficiencies and introducing solutions;
  • Reviewing the management accounting for the Group companies produced by the accountants in the team;
  • Running the year end financial close and statutory audit each year;
  • Overseeing all payment runs / invoice processing;
  • Overseeing cashflow management including bank reconciliations, recommendations on treasury deposits, fx transactions and monthly cashflow forecasting;
  • Preparing VAT  / Corporation tax returns for the Group; and
  • Producing the FX reporting that is presented to the FX committee each month.

The successful candidate must meet all of the following essential requirements:

  • Qualified accountant (ACA preferred);
  • Strong academics - minimum 2.1 degree from a good university
  • Financial Services sector experience - private equity or investment management preferred; and
  • Significant corporate / management company Financial Control experience

Team management experience would also be preferred. We need someone who is capable of operating a senior level and able to advise senior internal stakeholders credibly. Conversely, you must also be able to help the team resolve more fundamental accounting isues and be happy to dig into the detail. Good communications skills are also important.
