Network Engineer - OT / Network Segmentation
Contract: Initial 3 months with strong likelihood of extension
Level: Mid-Senior Network Engineer
Project: OT Network Segmentation Program
The Opportunity
A large organisation is undertaking an OT network segmentation and modernisation program across multiple locations throughout Australia.
An additional Network Engineer is being brought into the program to increase delivery capacity and support the continued rollout.
You will take ownership of allocated locations and independently progress them through the full project lifecycle - from network discovery and remediation through to VLAN segmentation, implementation and migration. Further work is planned beyond the current program, creating a strong likelihood of extension beyond the initial 3-month engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
Network Discovery & Design
- Perform discovery of existing network and OT environments.
- Identify assets currently connected to the network and understand existing network topology.
- Review and validate existing network documentation and diagrams.
- Identify gaps in network and asset documentation.
- Work with operational and business stakeholders to validate the current environment.
- Determine appropriate network segmentation requirements.
- Create and update network diagrams and technical documentation.
Network Remediation & Site Readiness
- Assess readiness ahead of network segmentation and migration.
- Identify fibre, cabling, switching and infrastructure requirements.
- Identify and address legacy network infrastructure.
- Coordinate network remediation activities.
- Work with internal teams and external vendors to prepare environments for implementation.
Network Segmentation
- Design and implement VLANs and network segmentation.
- Configure and troubleshoot Aruba and Cisco switching environments.
- Work within Cisco Stratix industrial networking environments.
- Prepare and configure switches prior to deployment.
- Coordinate implementation activities with internal teams and external vendors.
- Ensure network environments are ready for OT device migration.
Implementation & Migration
- Execute network changes and migrations.
- Migrate OT devices from legacy networks onto newly segmented networks and appropriate VLANs.
- Troubleshoot connectivity and network issues throughout implementation.
- Work closely with operational and OT teams during migration activities.
- Coordinate with external vendors where required.
- Validate connectivity and network operation following migration.
Technical Environment
The environment includes:
- Aruba switching - key requirement
- Cisco networking
- Cisco Stratix industrial switches
- VLANs and network segmentation
- OT / industrial networking
- Manufacturing environments
- Rockwell / Allen-Bradley
- Siemens
- PLCs, HMIs and SCADA environments
About You
We are looking for a mid-to-senior Network Engineer, ideally with 5+ years of networking experience, who can take ownership of allocated workstreams and operate independently.
Essential Experience
- Strong hands-on Aruba switching experience.
- Strong Cisco networking knowledge.
- Strong VLAN and network segmentation experience.
- Experience configuring and troubleshooting network switches.
- Network discovery and remediation experience.
- Network implementation and migration experience.
- Ability to read, interpret and create network diagrams.
- Strong network troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to independently manage allocated workstreams.
- Strong stakeholder and vendor coordination skills.
- Exposure to Rockwell and Siemens environments.
Highly Desirable
- Cisco Stratix experience.
- Previous OT network segmentation projects.
- Manufacturing or industrial networking experience.
- Rockwell / Allen-Bradley exposure.
- Siemens exposure.
- Experience migrating industrial or OT devices between networks.
- Exposure to PLC, HMI and SCADA environments.
Why Consider This Contract?
This is an opportunity to join a significant OT network transformation program where you will have genuine ownership of your work from initial discovery through to implementation.
Deep experience across every OT technology is not essential. Strong Network Engineers with the right switching, segmentation and implementation experience will be considered, with knowledge transfer available around the existing OT environment.
There is also strong potential for extension beyond the initial three months as the broader program continues.
This is a hybrid position.
