Division: Global Technology Services (GTS)

As Lead Expert Engineer - Mainframe Middleware & Framework Engineering, you will define and drive the technical roadmap for Euroclear's middleware platforms, frameworks, and tooling ecosystem. You will provide technical leadership across CICS, CICSPlex SM, z/OS Connect, APIs, automation, observability, and modernization initiatives, ensuring platforms remain secure, resilient, scalable, and aligned with business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and execute the Mainframe Middleware engineering strategy and roadmap.
• Act as the technical authority for CICS, CICSPlex SM, z/OS Connect, API enablement, middleware vendor products and middleware integration services.
• Design secure, scalable, and resilient solutions that align with architecture, security, and operational standards.
• Own and evolve Euroclear's middleware frameworks, reusable services, and in-house tooling ecosystem.
• Design business solutions that integrate seamlessly with existing frameworks, maximizing standardization, reuse, security, and developer productivity.
• Lead complex technical investigations, major platform upgrades, and root-cause analysis activities.
• Drive automation, modernization, and continuous improvement across the middleware landscape.
• Establish strong observability practices through monitoring, analytics, logging, and operational telemetry.
• Perform proactive and predictive analysis of CICS and middleware workloads to anticipate capacity demands, identify performance risks, and reduce potential downtime.
• Own the technical engagement for internal and external audits within the middleware domain, ensuring audit requirements are met, findings are addressed, remediation actions are delivered, and audit objectives are successfully achieved.
• Mentor engineers and influence technical direction across Architecture, Security, Infrastructure, Operations, and Application teams.

Required Experience & Skills

• Extensive experience in Mainframe Middleware Engineering within a large enterprise environment.
• Strong expertise in:
  
  1/ IBM CICS Transaction Server
  
  2/ CICSPlex SM
  
  3/ z/OS fundamentals (TSO/ISPF, SDSF, JCL, USS)
  
  4/ Db2 & MQ integration with CICS
  
  5/ REST APIs and z/OS Connect
  
  6/ IBM Problem Determination Tools (FM, FA, APA, Debugtool, etc..)
• Knowledge of API security technologies including OIDC, JWT, RACF, PassTickets, and mTLS.
• Experience with zowe, zOSMF, zOSExplorer, Git-based development, CI/CD pipelines, and automation frameworks.
• Experience with Omegamon/Tmon/Sysview, Instana, Splunk, or similar monitoring and observability platforms.
• Solid understanding of integration patterns, performance, security, and availability.
• Proven experience defining technical roadmaps and leading strategic engineering initiatives.
• Experience with observability, monitoring, capacity planning, and performance engineering.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with automation, DevOps, scripting, and engineering productivity improvements.
• Strong communication, stakeholder management, and technical leadership capabilities.

Nice to Have

• Mainframe modernization and hybrid cloud integration experience.
• Experience with REXX, Assembler, Java, PL/1, Cobol or Shell scripting.
• Experience with SMF reporting and Splunk
• Experience in financial services or other highly regulated environments.

Group Technology Services (GTS) plans, builds and runs the global infrastructure of Euroclear, and is additionally responsible for the IT service management to the operating entities of the various Group markets. Group Technology Services operates its IT systems and IT services in such a way that, at an appropriate and benchmarked cost level, it can deliver the agreed levels of service to support the requirements of the business processes, for both normal operations and during disaster recovery.
