Automation Engineer

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Automation Engineer to join our team. In this role, the engineer will design, develop, and deliver automation systems and related engineering packages while collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet project requirements, client expectations, and quality standards.

The role may include full or partial responsibility for the following assignments:

• Understand project scope and execute engineering activities in line with project requirements.

• Prepare engineering and project budget estimates, schedules, and related planning inputs.

• Execute substation and industrial automation design, including network architectures, I/O and signal lists, schematic drawings, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, fiber-based networks, control building arrangements, raceway layouts, and auxiliary AC/DC power systems.

• Prepare bills of materials and bills of quantities for equipment and project specifications.

• Coordinate design activities with other departments and project stakeholders as required.

• Perform quality reviews of engineering deliverables to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project standards.

• Develop configurations and settings for network switches, data concentrators, RTUs, SCADA systems, PLCs, and related automation equipment.

Qualifications

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Telecommunications, or Instrumentation Engineering.

• 3-5 years of experience in the design, configuration, and testing of substation automation systems or PLC-based projects.

• Familiarity with standard engineering techniques, procedures, and best practices, with the ability to apply them in project execution.

• Familiarity with communication protocols such as Modbus, DNP3, and IEC 61850, along with applicable IEEE standards, and the ability to apply them in project execution.

• Experience working with industrial automation projects is preferred.

• Experience working with software tools such as SEL AcSELerator RTAC, SEL-5030 AcSELerator QuickSet, SEL Architect, and Diagram Builder is an added advantage.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Experience with HMI platforms such as AVEVA System Platform or SEL or COPA-DATA zenon is an added advantage.

• Experience working with U.S. utility clients is preferred.

• Strong attention to detail, with effective facilitation, team-building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
