BMI OGC is excited to be opening a position for ADM (Piping Engineering). This position has a career progression that leads to DM and eventually Engineering Manager.

WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?

The Assistant Department Manager (ADM) reports to the Department Manager (DM) - Piping and is responsible for the managerial direction and leadership of the department. This includes supporting and executing business strategy, innovation, automation, developing high-performance teams, and promoting the Burns & McDonnell culture, values and mission. The ADM will support the DM in leading the department in a dynamic and profitable manner based on Burns & McDonnell's core values of client satisfaction, commitment, dedication, integrity, safety and overall outstanding service.

The OGC Global Practice executes engineering, procurement and construction projects in industries of Refining, Midstream & Logistics, Petrochemical and Chemicals. OGC Piping Engineering is a dynamic group that has grown to ~50 people driven by technical excellence and focused on delivering advance engineering & design services - this includes Piping Material Engineering, Stress analysis, Client 3D model reviews, and Isometrics.

Role and Responsibilities

1. Leadership and Management:
  • Provide assistance to the Department Manager (DM) in discharging all the DM responsibilities
  • Allocate resources effectively to project teams, address staff challenges, including hiring and onboarding new members
  • Maintain the team's skill matrix, identify training needs, organize training and keep track of software changes
  • Effectively deploy the BMI quality system, utilize the BMI database of previous projects and apply good engineering practices related to the piping department work, including adherence to applicable codes and standards.
  • Monitor the progress of quality objectives, gather quality-related feedback from all sources and address them.
  • Update work instructions and engineering standards; prepare technical bulletins that establish annual goals, initiatives and competitive quality benchmarks for the team
  • Conduct performance reviews, obtain 360-degree feedback and take responsibility for the career development of team members
  • Provide mentorship, identify the emerging 'knowledge leaders' of the department, guide their professional development and leverage their expertise tofulfill department development objectives.
  • Identify and nurture high-potential employees to build a leadership pipeline
  • Promote inter-disciplinary, inter-GP and inter-office collaboration and operate as the communication link between team members and senior management
  • Interpret company policies for the team, which include aligning the efforts of team members with the overall business strategy, translating the organization's goals into specific actions
  • Build relationships with leading cadre in BMI and other BMcD offices, collaborate with section managers, other ADMs, DMs, project managers, project engineers and the talent acquisition team
  • Disseminate safety awareness (especially safety in design), promote constructability awareness, drive innovation, automation and process optimization efforts
  • Initiate positive organizational changes within the team, embrace changes advocated by the organization's leadership, foster a positive team culture and promote the culture of servant leadership
  • Work with the DM to lead the Piping department through various phases of strategic change, introduce new methodologies, innovations, automation and new business approaches
  • Business development and client management: Represent the organization to external agencies and in industry forums, engage in networking through professional societies/seminars and author papers for professional journals

2. Project Responsibilities:
  • Lead projects in unique situations, while balancing primary responsibilities as the ADM
  • Guide and monitor the work of lead engineers and project teams against plans, focusing on quality, budget and schedule KPIs
  • Review and approve project execution plans, RACI matrix, QC review matrix, workhour estimation, etc., oversee activities like scheduling, project progress monitoring, change management, risk management, resource planning, cost estimating and more
  • Interpret project scope/contract on projects
  • Review and approve standard discipline deliverables and documents such as critical line list, stress packages, standard supports, engineered supports and more
  • Provide oversight to constructability reviews, modularization strategies, installation sequences and access/maintenance philosophy, proposing location and type of pipe supports, vendor documents review, resolving site queries and RFIsOversee engineering activities for brownfield projects, including tie-in design, field verification and coordination with as-built documentation and laser scan

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or chemical engineering
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in Piping
  • A minimum of 3 years as Lead Engineer on OGC projects
  • Experience in Petrochemicals, Chemicals, Refining and/or midstream and logistics projects
  • Authoritative knowledge of design, selection, fabrication and operation of piping domain and all kinds of advanced analysis, deliverables and technical review
  • Extensive knowledge in procurement contract processes, including bidding and techno-commercial evaluation
  • Extensive understanding of contemporary digitalization developments, emerging trends in design and engineering practices and market developments in the energy sector
  • Ability to listen effectively, behave compassionately and display an appropriate level of assertiveness
  • Maintain regular, appropriate and concise communication
  • Excellent negotiation, influencing and decision-making skills and very good systems thinking competence
  • Global collaboration skills and cultural adaptability to effectively lead international teams
