What You'll Do

CoreWeave's MetalDev team develops the Redfish-based services and software automation tooling used by frontline operations teams during data centre bring-ups and across production environments. We deliver operational stability, observability, and service reliability across cutting-edge infrastructure-including high-performance NVIDIA GPU servers, Cooling Distribution Units (CDUs), NVLink switches, and power shelves supporting GB200/GB300 Vera Rubin NVL72 systems and custom in-house hardware.

About the role

As a Senior Operations Engineer on the MetalDev team, you will focus on service reliability, observability, and operational excellence, splitting your time between day-to-day production support and incident response (80%) and engineering automation and process improvement (20%). You will troubleshoot team-owned services, diagnose BMC, server, DPU, CDU, and power shelf issues, and coordinate fleet-wide remediation in close partnership with Fleet Operations and Hardware Engineering. Additionally, you will own Prometheus and Grafana dashboards, manage vendor support cases to validate hardware/firmware fixes, continuously refine runbooks, and participate in an on-call rotation to reduce recurring incidents and operational toil.

Who You Are

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent practical experience).

  • 5+ years of experience in cloud operations, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), infrastructure operations, or a related technical field.

  • Strong knowledge of Linux system administration, Linux internals, and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash).

  • Experience deploying, troubleshooting, and supporting containerised microservices in Kubernetes environments and public cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP).

  • Demonstrated experience with incident management practices, including on-call rotations, incident response, escalations, root-cause analysis, and post-incident reviews.

  • Hands-on experience using Prometheus, Grafana, and PromQL for service monitoring, alerting, and telemetry.

  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex issues spanning software services, operating systems, networks, and physical infrastructure under high-impact conditions.

Preferred:

  • Working knowledge of Go or Python for automation workflows.

  • Experience with server hardware management, BMCs, Redfish, IPMI, or hardware-management services.

  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting server provisioning, reboot, and lifecycle-management failures.

  • Familiarity with high-performance computing, GPU infrastructure, DPUs, or large-scale AI clusters (including rack-level power and liquid cooling systems).

  • Experience collaborating directly with hardware and firmware vendors to qualify, track, and validate production fixes.

Wondering if you're a good fit?

We believe in investing in our people, and value candidates who bring diverse experiences to our teams-even if you do not meet every listed qualification.

  • You love to: Troubleshoot complex infrastructure failures across physical hardware, Linux internals, and Kubernetes platforms.

  • You're curious about: Partnering with vendors to resolve novel firmware/hardware bugs and building observability tools for next-generation AI supercomputers.

  • You're an expert in: Production incident response, root-cause analysis, and systematically eliminating operational toil through better runbooks and telemetry.
