Head of APAC Liquidity Provision Technology Algo Trading Development Team

Our client is seeking a technology leader to head Asia Liquidity Provision Technology, responsible for overseeing and expanding algo development across Asian markets. In this role, you’ll bridge high-level execution strategy with technical delivery, helping drive the architecture, reliability, and performance of low-latency execution platforms that support execution algorithms, smart order routing (SOR), and homegrown trading frameworks. This is an important leadership position where your technical vision and market expertise directly shape execution quality and system performance for the region.

Role Overview:
As Head of APAC Liquidity Provision Technology within the Algo Trading Development Team, you’ll own the long-term technical roadmap and lead regional engineering delivery—partnering closely with Quants, Execution Traders, and global stakeholders to execute strategic initiatives and expand capability across Asian markets.

Key Skills & Experience:
• 10+ years of cumulative professional software engineering experience
• At least 4+ years in a senior leadership role managing teams within front-office financial services
• Expert-level knowledge of an object-oriented programming language (Java or C++)
• Extensive experience building low-latency, high-throughput distributed systems
• Deep understanding of Asian market microstructure and experience developing execution algorithms/strategies (e.g., VWAP, TWAP, Inline, Pairs)
• Strong grasp of distributed, event-driven architectures and messaging middleware
• Experience with automated testing strategies for algorithms (simulation, backtesting, regression suites, replay frameworks)
• Knowledge of algo container frameworks (strategy containers, scheduling/trigger frameworks, or execution engines)

Key Responsibilities:
• Define the long-term technical vision and roadmap for Asia algo execution platforms, aligned with global business objectives
• Lead, mentor, and scale the engineering organisation across the region
• Set coding standards and enforce best practices, including code reviews, testing, and CI/CD
• Leverage Asian market microstructure knowledge to optimise execution algorithms, including pre-trade risk checks, limit frameworks, and regulatory requirements
• Act as the primary technology liaison for Quants, Execution Traders, and global teams in Asia
• Deliver strategic initiatives such as new market entry or asset class expansion
• Own reliability and performance of Algo Development and Central Liquidity Strategy applications
• Drive architectural decisions balancing low-latency performance with long-term system maintainability

Requirements:
• 10+ years’ professional software engineering experience
• 4+ years in a senior leadership role managing teams within a front-office financial services environment (Buy-side Equities, Hedge Fund, or HFT)
• Expert-level Java or C++
• Deep understanding of Asian market microstructure (e.g., Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, China, etc.)
• Experience developing execution algorithms/strategies (e.g., VWAP, TWAP, Inline, Pairs)
• Experience designing/working with distributed, event-driven architectures and messaging middleware
• Experience implementing automated testing strategies for algorithms, including simulation, backtesting, regression suites, and replay frameworks
• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, or a related quantitative field
• On-site working environment

• Experience working on Matching Engines or Dark Pools
• Experience building financing or post-trade systems
• Experience with Futures trading platforms
• Basic knowledge of KDB/Q
• Experience with sequencer based architecture
• Good understanding of AI-based code generation tools
