The Enterprise Technology Services organization partners with every part of the American Express business to power the company's growth and innovation with trust and efficiency, and drive competitive differentiation with speed. We support the delivery and operations of technology, digital, and data capabilities, platforms, and services globally. Specifically, our team is responsible for the company's technology engineering, architecture, and infrastructure, providing 24x7 support to ensure an uninterrupted, high-quality experience for customers and colleagues. We also provide product management for core enterprise platforms, and lead technology risk and information security, enterprise data governance and platforms, digital product and design, and enterprise AI platforms on behalf of the company.



At American Express our Global Network relies increasingly on the deep expertise and experience of a core team of subject matter experts in payments technology who are passionate about Payment Tokenisation, 3D Secure and similar emerging digital payment products and standards.



Our Solutions Architects have both deep technical and strategic business knowledge. But they're of one mind about using their experience, expertise and vision to drive better business outcomes

We are a small team of solution architects based in the UK embedded within our wider Global Network Technology team. We enjoy dynamic and interesting daily work and we have an excellent work/life balance, and flexible working practices.




The Challenge

Within Amex you'll work closely with a variety of Network Product and Technology teams using your skills in the domain of payment products applied to define solutions and be a key contributor to American Express Payment Products.




About you?

Coming from a technical background with business knowledge and context from your experience in the card payments industry you'll be ready to succeed and apply your expertise. Your ability to combine your knowledge and passion with written communication will be highly valued.



While the role does not currently involve any software development, relevant past experience as a software developer would be a valuable asset in support of the in-depth understanding of how applications are designed and developed.




Responsibilities

• Mentors junior Solutions Architects and cross-functional team of colleagues, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation


• Identifies and implements technical solutions and business process improvements by analyzing business needs and leveraging innovative technologies


• Collaborates with business partners and product engineering teams to enforce architecture practices, ensuring alignment with architectural and technical strategy through governance and project reviews


• Leads technology platform solutions alignment with platform blueprints and company roadmaps, serving as the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) and coordinating with relevant stakeholders


• Optimizes cross-platform integration implementing advanced integration strategies to enhance platform capabilities, performance, and efficiency


• Ensures the engineered environment meets comprehensive business, application design, and infrastructure requirements by overseeing platform integration performance


• Executes solution architecture design strategies, leads design and code reviews to ensure the delivery of desired business outcomes and adherence to enterprise standards


• Supervises the platform's application programming interface strategy and implementation roadmap by collaborating with business and data architects, incorporating their input into cohesive platform solutions


• Collaborates and co-creates effectively with teams in product and the business to align technology initiatives with business objectives

Qualifications




Minimum Qualifications:



Past Experience:

• Experience and technical expertise in:


• Solution architecture and design of complex distributed systems


• RESTful APIs


• Architecting cloud-based systems


• Evaluating new technologies


• Excellent collaboration and communication skills


• Working in agile teams, preferably some exposure to SAFe.

Desirable:

• Knowledge of 3D Secure/Safekey


• Knowledge of Payment Tokenisation


• Past experience as a software developer would be a valuable asset.

Academic:

• Bachelors or Master's degree in computer science or similar subject
